the Monthly Wrap - July 2025

What’s New?

First Grown in Montana Yarn

This is big news for our business as we have been feverishly working on getting Montana grown yarn into our production line. After hitting multiple roadblocks, we have now partnered with multiple mills to help us achieve that goal. The first test yarn has arrived, and we are working on programming new scarf designs that work with the new yarn on our machine. What an awesome challenge. We are so excited about this huge leap forward and cannot wait to offer up these Montana grown and made scarves in the future! Fun fact, this first batch is from an alpaca called Wildcard, who lives at Sentinel Ranch in Red Lodge. What a neat dual color coat!

Skirting Fleece for the Mill

Summertime is as good as any time to be outside to prepare alpaca fleeces for the mill. One of the first steps after shearing, is to lay out the fleece and pick out vegetable matter and shorter fibers that you don’t want to have in the finished product. This is called “skirting” as you go around the fleece to remove any irregularities. While there are machines that remove some of these shorter fibers, skirting, just like shearing will always be done by human hand. After skirting, the fleece gets tumbled to shake out any loose dirt. This process improves quality and reduces cost as all fiber is processed by weight.

Trade Show in Denver

We are honored and excited to join The Rocky Mountain Apparel, Gift & Resort Show, a premier retail event for the mountain region, for the first time! We will join many vendors that offer their mountain-region souvenirs and resort apparel in Denver this August. This is the perfect event to restock products in preparation for the busy season ahead.

The Rocky Mountain Apparel, Gift & Resort Show is a top destination for buyers from national parks, ski resorts, zoos, aquariums, museums, airports, retail stores, spas, and boutiques and we look forward to meeting you at the show!

Morel Mushroom

Looking for a conversation starter? The Morel Mushroom scarf garners special attention at the markets. This design is quite popular among mushroom lovers, and they proudly wear their love for this earthly delectable around their neck. Hard to find such a unique design, let alone made from most luxurious alpaca fiber, a perfect combination!

Knitwork Collaborations:

Shout Out to I Make Yarn

Thanks to I Make Yarn in Caldwell, Idaho, we now have our first Montana grown yarn to knit on our machine. This is a huge milestone for our business, and we look forward to continuing our collaborations with partnering mills. The quality and craftsmanship of the yarn is great, and just as with any part of the production, making yarn requires a lot of skill and experience to get there. Thank you, Eddie for helping us along the way!
