Carder and Picker arrived

This is exciting news! We received our carder/rover and picker from Brother Drum Carder, a U.S. business out of Oregon that builds a variety of different size carders. I can honestly say their customer service and lead times are commendable. Their equipment has a small footprint yet they are impressive powerhouses. The picker can tease 15-20 pounds of fiber per hour. Fiber is picked, so it is opened up, which results in a better preparation for the carder. The carder then aligns these fibers into one long soft row, called roving. This rover is designed to process up to 5 pounds of fiber per hour. This has been an important step for us in our endeavor to process our own fiber.

Purchasing fiber processing equipment is not as easy at it sounds, as there are only few companies that build these, and most of them are not in the U.S. Some of the equipment we need is so specialized, it becomes an adventure to secure the various pieces from across the globe. However, we are proud to support U.S. manufacturing businesses whenever possible.
